Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the Anti-Defamation Commission issued the following statement:
“Today, Australia lost a national treasure.
As we extend our heartfelt condolences to Naomi, his children, grandchildren and the entire Leibler family, we are deeply saddened by the passing of Isi Leibler, whose fearless passion and dedication to the Australian Jewish community were an inspiration and a blessing to legions of young leaders.
A calm and forceful voice for equality and civil rights, we cannot overstate or overestimate the degree to which Isi Leibler’s courage and tireless advocacy, especially for the liberation of refuseniks from the tyranny of the Soviet Union, helped shape local and international history.
A staunch friend of the Anti-Defamation Commission, all of us owe him a debt of gratitude.
And though he is no longer with us, his extraordinary, unparalleled and unforgettable legacy will live on for generations to come.
We will miss him dearly.”
