Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission, issued the following statement:

“Once again we see celebrities using appalling comparisons to Hitler to attack others, and once again we say that there is simply no place for these kinds of sickening distortions in our public discourse. Matt Barnes is entitled to his strong opinions about Donald Trump, but Hitler and his genocidal actions should never form part of the discussion about the American presidential elections and no candidate should ever be compared to Hitler. The six million Jews and millions of others who perished at the hands of the Third Reich deserve better and should not be used for political point sloganeering.  It bears repeating again that this type of historically inaccurate comparisons diminish the profound tragedy of the Holocaust and are deeply offensive to the victims, to survivors and to their families. Such ignorant posts only fuel the gross trivialization of the Holocaust and we call on Matt Barnes to apologise and to refrain from using such analogies in the future.”

The Anti-Defamation Commission, founded in 1979, is Australia’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through educational programs that combat bigotry, prejudice and all forms of hatred.
